Dialysis care has a large environmental impact including water consumption (>450 billion liters annually), energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and massive generation of waste including plastics like dialyzers and bloodlines.

The International Society of Nephrology’s (ISN) Global Environmental Evolution in Nephrology and Kidney Care (Green-K) Steering Committee, whose mission is sustainable kidney care for a healthy planet and healthy kidneys.
