Mission
The mission of the Transforming Dialysis Access Together (TDAT) initiative is to enhance the quality of life for people with kidney failure by engaging kidney care team-members, patients, and nephrologists as leaders in transformational change to improve practices, education, and policies around hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis accesses.

TDAT Overview
ASN created the TDAT initiative to bring the dialysis access community together for the following purposes:
- Leverage consensus statements, clinical practice guidelines, and related initiatives to improve the quality of dialysis access.
- Increase exposure to dialysis access during undergraduate and graduate medical training.
- Expand continuing education programs focused on dialysis access.
- Advance dialysis access through regulatory and legislative priorities.
- Accomplish “Dialysis Access Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.”
Spotlight
Launch of the “Transforming Dialysis Access Together” (TDAT) Initiative
ASN launched the TDAT initiative with the first Steering Committee meeting held in the fall of 2022. The Steering Committee is composed of the leaders from all TDAT Workgroups. TDAT Workgroups include Quality Improvement; Medical Training; Education; Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion; and Policy.
Resource Highlights
Dialysis access resources will be developed by TDAT to help kidney care professionals transform the delivery of care, reduce morbidity and mortality, and improve long-term outcomes.
New Online Module: Optimizing Hemodialysis Vascular Access Planning
This self-paced learning tool is designed for nephrologists and other staff in an outpatient hemodialysis facility. The module is case-based and focused on a patient-centered approach to improve safety and mitigate infections by reducing catheters.
