ASN Home Dialysis Scholarship Program

Program Overview

This 2-part scholarship program includes:

Home Dialysis University (HDU)

Date and Location: August 23-25, 2026, Dallas Texas

A 2.5-day in-person, in-depth, and immersive course on home dialysis therapies. Participants experience didactic and small group interactive workshops that facilitate interaction with peers and faculty to work through case-based approaches for common clinical scenarios likely to be encountered in the management of individuals receiving home dialysis.

ASN HDU Virtual Education Series

Date and Location: One hour, monthly, September 2026 through June 2027, virtual series via Zoom.

An 11-session case-based education series. Fellows will meet virtually with scholarship recipient peers for interactive discussions led by expert faculty.

Virtual Series Curriculum

  • Home dialysis modality education
  • Peritoneal dialysis (PD) access
  • Home hemodialysis access; Home hemodialysis cannulation and treatment training
  • Peritoneal dialysis prescription
  • Home hemodialysis prescription
  • Nocturnal home hemodialysis; Home hemodialysis complications
  • PD infectious complications
  • Volume management in home dialysis
  • PD non-infectious complications
  • Strategies to enhance home dialysis time on therapy
  • Home dialysis infrastructure

HDU Course Travel Support

Fellows selected for this scholarship program will receive travel support from the ASN to attend the in-person HDU course. Covered expenses include the course registration fee*, two nights of hotel accommodations, meals during the meeting, and travel reimbursement up to $550.

*Recipients are required to pay a $125 registration fee to enroll in the course. This fee will be reimbursed after full attendance and completion of the in-person HDU course.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. A 2nd or 3rd-year nephrology fellow in an accredited training program in the United States when attending the in-person course in August.
  2. Have never attended HDU before.
  3. Expected to attend the full in-person course and attend a minimum of 9 out of 11 virtual sessions live to successfully complete the program and receive a certificate of completion.
  4. Must have support from the training program director (TPD) to attend the course and participate in the 11-session longitudinal education program.

Students can log in to re-watch sessions or access materials that were distributed for the virtual education sessions.
